Aims of the Programme To provide students with language and language related transferable skills useful in a range of contexts both educational and professional; and to respond to national and international needs for advanced strategic competence in a variety of world languages.
Programme Outcomes
Students are expected to have Knowledge and Understanding of: Which will be gained through the following Teaching and Learning methods: and assessed using the following methods:
The advanced strategic usage of two or more modern languages.
Literature in those languages, past and present.
The history and culture of the language communities.
The linguistic structures of the languages.
The comparative position of (the above) in a wider European and World Context.
Key methods and concepts of literary, historical, culltural and linguistic analysis.
Acquisition of 1 is through small-group classes, tutorials, CAL and (non-assessed coursework), with emphasis on class participation.Additional support is available through self access facilities in the LMRC. The Year Abroad provides total immersion.Acquisition of 2-6 is through lectures, seminars and tutorials and lectures and dissertation work in Year 3/level 2/3. There is encouragement of independent learning and group project work throughout.
Unseen written examinations, assessed coursework, essays, oral and aural examinations, tasks undertaken under examination conditions, extended essays (1) during the Year Abroad and dissertation work.

Effectively present information orally and in writing.
Intellectual and language skills are developed through the teaching and learning programme outlined above. Each course involves discussion of key issues, practice in applying concepts orally and in writing, analysis and interpretation of material, and individual feedback.
Assessed coursework, oral examinations and assessed presentations, unseen examinations dissertation and project report to encourage the development of strategic competence in 1-6.
