Aims of the Programme On our BSc Accounting and Finance degree you will be taught using a variety of methods by leading researchers and academics who have worked professionally in the accounting and finance sector. You can apply for a placement year during your second year and undertake a year-long placement during your third year. If you successfully secure a placement you will be moved on to the four-year BSc Accounting & Finance with Placement Year degree. You can apply for any paid placement opportunity from multi-national, third sector, and SME employers in the UK and internationally. The programme aims to develop rounded, confident individuals who are ready to outperform in their chosen career. We aim to: develop the analytical capabilities of individuals, encourage critical thinking and cultivate independent learners who are able to evaluate and integrate knowledge from multiple sources. We also aim to improve student communication and presentation skills, and encourage students to develop a deeper approach to learning that allows them to formulate their own student focused understanding of concepts related to accounting and finance. This involves achieving a balance between conceptual and applied aspects, students will engage with theoretical frameworks through financial accounting, management accounting or financial markets while applying these concepts through varied assessments. We aim to nurture understanding in a breadth of disciplines and advance student team building qualities that will help to enhance employability and a growth mindset, by encouraging students to reflect on their work and behaviours.

BSc Accounting and Finance with Business Analytics

Business Analytics is increasingly essential due to the rapid growth in data generation and utilisation. Industries are relying more on data-driven decision-making, driving the demand for professionals skilled in analytics. Combining Accounting and Finance with Business Analytics integrates data analytics into core accounting and finance studies, so students gain the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and support strategic decision-making. They develop expertise in financial modelling, predictive analytics, and analytical tools, preparing them to meet employer demands and tackle real-world challenges. This degree pathway ensures graduates can contribute effectively in roles requiring both analytical and financial acumen, making them highly valuable across industries.

Students can either apply to the BSc Accounting and Finance with Business Analytics programme directly, or transfer to the pathway at the end of Year 1. Students must choose ALL of the pathway compulsory modules in second year and final year to exit with the BSc Accounting and Finance with Business Analytics degree.
