Students will be set weekly homework questions which are marked and they must achieve an average score of 40% for these questions. Failure to do so will mean that they do not pass the module.
The module aims to enhance student knowledge and understanding of the mathematics used in Engineering and to develop the skills of its use.

Taylor’s and Maclaurin’s series
Vector Algebra
Complex Numbers
Differentiation of implicit, trigonometric and parametric
Functions;
Ordinary differential equations
Matrices and determinants
Mathematical foundations of numerical methods
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mathematical principles necessary to underpin their education across engineering disciplines.
Enable students to apply mathematical methods, tools and notations proficiently in the analysis and solution of engineering problems.
Assessments:
(30%) Continuous assessment (timed online multiple-choice quizzes)
(20%) Coursework – long written answer questions (timed submitted online)
(50%) Timed online exam in January assessment period (can be replaced by 2-hour closed book centrally timetabled exam in January assessment period if this is possible).
