This course provides a survey of the disciplinary specialisations, topics and methodologies practiced or exemplified in CAHA. It seeks to problematise, decentre or encourage the rethinking of the attitudes and assumptions of first-year students. The first semester focuses on mythology and questions of ethnicity and gender in antiquity. Team-taught, with a maximum of four instructors, all of whom will also lead a seminar.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Recognise and describe the different methods that can be used to study the ancient world;
Display good factual knowledge about mythology as well as ethnicity and gender in antiquity;
Show appreciation of critical and theoretical perspectives on the topic;
Present conclusions in a concise form, emphasising illustration, depiction and brief description.
