Exclusions
Description This module aims at the advanced learner of the language. It will further develop and extend listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills acquired at previous levels or equivalent. Students will acquire a high level of competence in written and oral language. Teaching is through practical language classes involving both whole group and small-group/pair-work activities, aiming at developing all language skills, with emphasis on oral communication. Visual aids, audio/video recordings and digital media are used routinely. Active participation of students in class is encouraged.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Read and demonstrate understanding of selected authentic articles from the press;
  • Listen to substantial extracts of spoken language taken from authentic broadcast sources and demonstrate understanding of key elements;
  • Work with a variety of authentic sources in the target language including the internet, newspapers, TV and radio programmes;
  • Show evidence of working towards the use of the French language to B1.2 level of the CEFR for languages.
Assessment 33343-01 : 10 Minute Oral Exam : Class Test (35%)
33343-02 : 2 Hour Written Exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (65%)

2-hour written exam (65%) [normally in Semester 2]
10-minute oral exam (35%) [normally in Semester 2]

Alternative Assessment for single-semester Exchange students (Semester 1 only):
90 minute online test 70%
3-minute oral assessment submission 30%

Alternative assessment if on campus activity is restricted: proctored exams will be converted to take home papers and live oral assessments will either be recorded presentations or conducted via Zoom/Skype.
