Choose either 40 credits from the following OR (provided all Year 2 credits from other Joint Honours subject are being taken at Level I) take 20 credits from the following list and 20 credits from the list of optional Level C modules listed under Stage 1 (not including modules already taken at Stage 1). Note that this list is indicative, not conclusive: in some years the range of optional modules may differ slightly.
The Stage II optional Philosophy modules are divided into three categories that represent three core areas of philosophy: history of philosophy; ethics and social philosophy; epistemology, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind and language. These groupings are the following (please note: the specific modules listed are indicative, as provision may evolve to reflect, for example, staffing changes): Group A: Mind-Body Problem, Speaking of Things, Science and Nature, Logic: Its Limits and Scope, Elements of Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mental Health
Group B: The Ethics and Politics of Climate Change, Feminist Philosophy, The Ethics of Killing, Sex, Ethics and Philosophy , Political Disagreement
Group C: Experience and Reason, Aesthetics through History , History of Analytic Philosophy
Stage II Mathematics/Philosophy students are not allowed to do all Stage II modules from just one group. Because Logic: Its Limits and Scope module belongs to Group A, this means that the only constraint is that students on this programme cannot choose two other Group A modules but rather they have to do at least one module from either Group B or C.
