Aims of the Programme Overview of the programme and its content

Digital Media and Communications explores the ways in which we communicate, on- and offline, in different ways and for different purposes. It examines the use of media and digital technologies to communicate, drawing on different theoretical viewpoints. The suite of compulsory modules that comprise the programme are designed to develop students’ theoretical understanding, media practice, research skills, and preparedness for employment.

Student skills and experiences

Students will engage critically with concepts and theories from media and communication studies. They will develop their capacity to think critically, to argue, defend and advocate for their positions in presentations and in written work, Students will engage in media practice, from the ideas stage to their realisation, developing their skills in using digital technologies. They will develop research skills in collecting, analysing, and communicating data and will gain experience of responding creatively to real-world challenges.

Potential areas of work

The programme prepares students for a career in areas such as media, marketing, project management, and content production. The programme balances theoretical and practical study with embedded employability opportunities, ensuring that students graduate with the skills and competencies to shape media and digital agendas in the future.
