Description This module builds upon the fundamental principles introduced in Year 1 to develop a deeper understanding of quantum mechanics and atomic spectroscopy.
This module presents an introduction to quantum mechanics, starting from its development to explain the failures of classical mechanics, and its applications in spectroscopy.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and concepts associated with the material delivered in each area;
  • Apply their acquired knowledge and understanding to the solution of relevant problems, including numerical problems;
  • Apply their knowledge and understanding to rationalise observations and trends, including previously unseen data and including results of numerical problem-solving.
  • Apply their knowledge and understanding to interpret experimental data.
Assessment 33688-01 : Module Assessment : Exam (School Arranged) - Written Unseen (100%)
