The following core language modules - to 20 credits for post-beginners, and to 40 credits at beginners level - are compulsory at Stage I for each language followed. French is not available at beginners level. No more than one language may be taken at beginners level. Portuguese can only be taken to a maximum of 40 credits in any year. Beginners German can only be taken to a maximum of 60 credits in Years 1 and 2. Translation Studies pathway: two compulsory core modules to a maximum of 40 credits in any year. Translation Studies cannot be taken in conjunction with modules on the European Studies pathway of the BA Modern Languages programme. JH students take all compulsory core language modules in their relevant language as described below, plus further credits appropriate to their level ( beginners or advanced) as set out in the programme specifications for that language. Single-language students on the BA Modern Languages and History of Art and on the BA Modern Languages and Music, are permitted to follow 80 credits of French, German (NB not available for BA-ML and History of Art), Italian, Hispanic Studies or Russian where available, and in addition to the compulsory core language modules described below take further credits as set out in the specifications for the relevant language or via the Translation Studies pathway. Two-language students on the BA Modern Languages and History of Art and on the BA Modern Languages and Music, must follow core language modules to 20 credits (post-beginners) or 40 credits (beginners)
French:
Italian:Students must take Advanced Language 1A/B or Beginners Language 1A/B
Spanish: Students must choose either Spanish language 1A/B or Beginners Language.
