Aims of the Programme To increase knowledge and understanding of individuals on the autism spectrum and the range of provision required to meet their needs and those of their families; To provide ways of assessing, evaluating and recording the skills and behaviour of individuals on the autism spectrum and to evaluate interventions and practice; To encourage students to examine their own practice and to conduct a study on an aspect of their work; To critically examine a variety of educational approaches and the National Curriculum requirements in relation to individuals on he autism spectrum.
Programme Outcomes

The triad of differences and the implications for the practitioner, family and the child
The sensory challenges that some children and young people experience and how to address these
Assessing children on the autism spectrum to determine their particular needs and to devise targets and evaluate progress
A framework within which to evaluate your own and other approaches to working with children on the autism spectrum
The factors leading to behaviour which challenges staff and parents and have strategies to analyse, understand, prevent and manage these
A continuum of educational provision for pupils on the autism spectrum and a variety of educational approaches to address their needs
