Description
The module lays the theoretical basis underpinning international business activities. The module will start with sessions on the theory of the firm, including the resource-based view of the firm and transaction cost theory, which form the foundations of the internationalisation theories. These will be followed by sessions that cover a range of internationalisation theories, models and conceptual developments such as the contributions of Hymer and Vernon, the exchange and network theories, the Uppsalla internationalisation theory, the internationalisation framework developed by Reijo Luostarinen, Dunning's eclectic paradigm, theories of global production networks and the knowledge based view of the firm.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Have a sound theoretical understanding of IB concepts
Develop their knowledge about the evolution of the theories in international business
Develop an ability to compare, contrast and critically assess the application of the theories taught.
