Description This 10 credit module, linked to Spanish Language Commerce II A will continue to develop language skills up to CEFR B2. It will focus in reading comprehension skills and ability to present a given information in Spanish, always considering a wide range of specific registers in Spanish, formal and informal. It will aim to prepare students with sufficient skills to have a high degree of independence in the target language in their year abroad. It will also continue reinforcing previously acquired grammar and introducing new grammar topics.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate understanding of the main ideas of a complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, focusing on business, political and economic topics.
  • Respond well in every day situations that they may confront in their Year Abroad, being these interactions in the professional, social or study environments.
  • Produce clear texts on topics related to the business, professional, political or the economic worlds, and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue discussing the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the intercultural differences in Hispanic countries.
  • Successfully perform a range of written, oral and aural tasks, including essay writing, oral presentation and discussion of a broad spectrum of topics related to the business, economic, political and professional spheres.
Assessment 33902-01 : 48 hour take home paper : Coursework (75%)
33902-02 : 10 minute interview : Coursework (25%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: 2 hours Grammar/Writing Skill test (75% - 1 grammar section and 1 reading comprehension-writing task), 1 x 15 minutes oral exam (5 minutes role play + 10 minutes and1 topic discussion that they may have chosen among a list of pre-prepared topics) (25%)
The written examination is regarded as essential for the successful completion of this module; if the student fails this component but passes the module overall they will still be required to re-sit the written examination in the Supplementary Examination Period.
