This module aims at the advanced learner of the language. It seeks to develop and extend language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and systems (grammar and vocabulary) acquired at previous levels and to familiarize students with newspaper formatting and language. Students will be encouraged to become aware of topics and issues discussed in France. They will be guided to research material individually, using newspapers and magazines available on the Internet and to develop a more independent approach to learning. Students will further develop their command of written French in a creative and communicative way, through the creation of a short newspaper / magazine requiring the use of different styles of French. In the process students will enhance their ability to express themselves in French through an oral presentation at the end of the module. They will also further develop their expertise in using IT tools such as word-processing packages and the Internet. Teaching is through practical language classes involving both whole group, small-group/pair-work activities and individual work, aiming at developing all language skills, with emphasis on oral communication. Visual aids, audio/video recordings and the Internet are used routinely.
