To proceed from Stage Iib (or from Stage II for the 3-year programme) to Stage III a student must have a minimum of 100 credits, to include the relevant core language module(s).
Route 1: Major in Russian Students must take a minimum of 80 credits in Russian and 40 credits in one modern foreign language
Students take all compulsory core language modules in their relevant languages as described below, plus further credits as required.
Route 2: Joint Honours in Russian The University Regulations permit students registered to Joint degrees to vary their credit weighting in their second and final year. A minimum of 40 credits and a maximum of 80 credits must be taken in each discipline in both years (subject to a total number of 120 credits in each year). Students who undertake less than 160 credits in one of their disciplines will graduate with a major/minor degree.

Catalan and Mandarin Chinese can only be taken to a maximum of 40 credits in any one year. You can only study Catalan and Mandarin Chinese with a Major in Russian.
Students taking 80 credits in Russian (language A): [Russian] You must take a 20 credit Independent Study module in Semester 1 PLUS one 20 credit optional module in Semester 1 and one 20 credit optional module in Semester 2 in Russian (includes departmental modules)
And 40 credits in language B: [French, German, Portuguese, Spanish] You must take a 20 credit Independent Study module in Semester 2 in language B.
OR
Students taking 80 credits in Russian (language A): [Russian] You must take a 20 credit Independent Study module in Semester 2 PLUS one 20 credit optional module in Semester 1 and one 20 credit optional module in Semester 2 in Russian (includes departmental modules)
And 40 credits in language B: [French, German, Portuguese, Spanish] You must take a 20 credit Independent Study module in Semester 1 in language B.
OR
Students taking 80 credits in Russian (language A): [Russian] You must take a 40 credit Independent Study module PLUS one 20 credit optional module in Semester 1 in Russian (includes departmental modules)
And 40 credits in language B: [French, German, Portuguese, Spanish] You must take one 20 credit optional module in Semester 2 in language B

Students taking 80 credits in Russian (language A): [Russian] You must take a 40 credit Independent Study module PLUS one 20 credit optional module in Semester 2 in Russian (includes departmental modules)
And 40 credits in language B: [French, German, Portuguese, Spanish] You must take one 20 credit optional module in Semester 1 in language B.

Students taking 80 credits in Russian (language A): [Russian] You must take a 20 credit Independent Study module in Semester 1 PLUS one 20 credit optional module in Semester 1 and one 20 credit optional module in Semester 2 in Russian (includes departmental modules)
And 40 compulsory credits in Catalan: You must take LH Advanced Catalan Language A&B and a 20 credit Independent Study module on a Catalan topic in Semester 2
