Description

This linked module provides instruction in written, oral and aural structures in the language, basing itself on the course book, while also using other stimulus materials provided by the course tutor.  There is work in the language laboratories as well as in classes specifically designed to develop oral competence. Students will also make use of web-based programmes and material.

Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand and use basic grammatical structures and their terminology, including tense structures, passive mood and the use of the subjunctive in the expression of opinion
  • Show an awareness of Italian sounds and patterns of intonation as well as an increased understanding of spoken Italian.
  • Communicate effectively, albeit at a basic level, in the spoken language and show an awareness of the most appropriate language in particular situations
  • Perform a range of written and oral tasks, including letter writing, simple narrative prose and presenting oneself and one’s ideas in conversation
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the range of resources available to support their active language learning
  • Have achieved level A2/B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
