B.A. Mathematics and Philosophy Full-time
Year: 3
2025/26 Session
As a result of enhancements to the University's Joint Honour provision, students in their final year may choose either 80 , 60 or 40 credits in each subject of their Joint Honours degree (subject to a combined total of 120 credits in each year). The programme requirements set out below are based upon a choice of 60 credits in each subject; the number of optional modules available to you (if any) will therefore vary depending on the precise number of credits you are taking in each subject. The number of credits taken in each subject may also result in a change to your degree title, as detailed in the University's Regulations. Please consult your Programme Director if you have any queries.
Students must choose 40 credits of independent study in one and only one subject:
If LH Research Skills in Mathematics is chosen, students must also choose its co-requisite 20 credit module in Mathematics. (The co-requisite module should be chosen from the optional list below having first been discussed with the Personal Tutor. It should be chosen such that there exists alignment in content and learning outcomes with the Research Skills in Mathematics module).
Students choose at least 60 credits of optional modules across Philosophy and Mathematics, taking a minimum of 40 credits in each subject. The following lists are indicative.
Students may also apply to undertake a Professional Skills module at level H on the condition that they are taking 40 credits or more in Mathematics. If successful this will be taken in place of one of their semester 1 taught modules. The placement can be taken either during the summer vacation (part-time or full-time) or during semester 1 (part-time only). The placement must be completed prior to the Christmas vacation. Students who undertook a Professional Skills module at level I will not be able to undertake a Professional Skills module at level H.
