Aims of the Programme 1. To provide for part-time students from all age groups a programme offering a route into, or back into, higher education that may either be an attainment in its own right or a progression route into higher levels of study;
2. To offer a coherent academic programme ensuring that key subject specific elements are taken by all students but allowing choice outside the main subject of study in order to broaden and further develop the academic experience;
3. To permit students to progress their interest in Psychology within an academic framework for purposes of personal, academic or vocational development.
Programme Outcomes
Students are expected to have Knowledge and Understanding of: Which will be gained through the following Teaching and Learning methods: and assessed using the following methods:
The definition of and discussion of the 'scientific status' of psychology.
A range of methods (qualitive and quantitative) used in psychological investigation, including ethical considerations.
The psychological aspects of how we learn and how we percieve the world around us.
The psychological aspects of human socialisation, human development and individual differences.
What constitutes psychological normality and abnormality, including the range of 'disorders' and 'treatments'
The distinction between the biological and psychological components of human behaviour and experience (nature vs nurture)
Lectures, class discussions, group exercises, debates, presentations, guided independent study, essay-writing clinics, one-to-one guidance.
Continuous assessment based on two essays per module.

Develop transferrable skills such as essay writing and critical thinking.
Present a balanced critique of issues within an academic discipline.
Appropriate referencing (Harvard System)
Time management skills (meeting deadlines)
Lectures, class discussions, group exercises, debates, presentations, guided independent study, one-to-one guidance.
Continuous assessment based on two essays per module.
