M.Sci. Theoretical Physics Full-time
Year: 2
2024/25 Session
Year 2 students on the MSci Theoretical Physics programme must pass at least 100 credits to proceed to Year 3, having having failed a maximum of 20 credits from the following modules: Physics and Communications Skills (03 01149), Particles and Nuclei & A Quantum Approach to Solids (03 26017), and any optional modules. All other modules are progression requirements and must be passed to progress to Year 3. Students must pass Physics Laboratory 2 (03 00943) if taking this module.
Students must also satisfy the University criteria for remaining on the MSci programme and must have a minimum year mark of 55% and at least 220 credits by the end of stage 2.
A student may transfer onto the MSci Theoretical Physics programme from another Physics programme at the end of stage 2 if they have achieved 70% or above in the Mathematics for Physicists 2 modules (03 34465/03 34469). Such a student would normally be expected to have also passed the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics (03 00539) and Eigenphysics (03 00746) modules.
