Aims of the Programme To enable students to study a wide range of topics in Physics with Astrophysics including experience in another country in order to develop their potential in a world market.
Programme Outcomes
Students are expected to have Knowledge and Understanding of: Which will be gained through the following Teaching and Learning methods: and assessed using the following methods:
A good grounding in basic Physics & Mathematics
Advanced ideas in Physics with Astrophysics approaching the frontiers of the subject where practicable
A specialist knowledge of spacecraft design, mission planning and management, satellite communications and satellite control
A range of Physics modules to be chosen to give the relevant Physics background and knowledge for this programme
Demonstrate their Physics/Mathematics skills in Physics and Mathematics modules taught and examined in a foreign language at the host University as part of a study programme approved by the School of Physics & Astronomy
Write effectively in a foreign language in both technical and non-technical contexts
A mathematical analysis package (MathCad) and formal programming language
Lectures, laboratory workshops and tutorials. In the final year students also carry out a major project in their specialist area. The programme is supported by tutorial work during the first two years. Students also take a general problems module to exercise their Physics skills.Certificate: K/U ref 1,4Diploma: K/U ref 1,2,4
By a combination of unseen examinations, continuously assessed work including workshops, laboratories and project work.Written examinations in foreign language by Modern Languages Unit prior to year abroad. Physics examinations during year abroad are written in the foreign language.

Acquire analytic and problem-solving skills, equipping them to apply their knowledge in a wide range of situations
Develop a range of skills in practical Physics & Astrophysics including experimental work, data manipulation and numerical modelling
Demonstrate a range of transferable skills including communication, self-organisation, and the use of information technology
Show self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as being effective team members
Converse effectively in a foreign language in both technical and non-technicial discussions
Appreciate the cultural, historical, political, social and geographic aspects of the host country
An ability to use a mathematical analysis package (MathCad) and a formal programming language (C++) to address physics problems
Workshops and tutorials.Laboratory and project work.Talks, essays and IT based modules.In the third year in Birmingham, students undertake a group studies module in which they work as a team on a major project in Space Research.
These would be by continuous assessment in workshops, laboratories and projects. This is assessed by a combination of reports, project design proposals, talks and personal interviews. Basic language examined by MLU. Technical language used in exams during year abroad.
