Aims of the Programme This programme aims to develop students' interest in and knowledge and understanding of archaeology and social and cultural anthropology in their broadest terms. The programme aims to develop an innovative range of transferable skills in research, analysis and presentation through the study and understanding of both past and present human cultures from around the world. The programme will facilitate intellectual development by encouraging independent and critical thinking. As a single honours programme students can have extensive freedom in their third year of study to specialise in either archaeology or anthropology.

The multifaceted nature of these fields and their complex relationships to other disciplines (applies to DipHE and BA)
The use and critical interrogation of a range of primary and secondary written, and/or oral and/ or visual/ electronic sources (applies to DipHE and BA)
Theoretical and interpretative frameworks in archaeology and social and cultural anthropology (applies to DipHE and BA)
Research methodology and appropriate analytical and interpretative approaches (applies only to BA qualification)
Lectures, classes and student-directed group work; Individual research.

Be able to produce coherent written presentation supported by references and illustration as appropriate
Be able to undertake team work on tasks requiring collaborative working practice (e.g. group presentation or report) to a timetable and deadlines
Be able to carry out individual study requiring collection and presentation of information accurately
Be able to give an oral presentation supported by appropriate illustrative material
Be able to describe and analyse critically archaeological and anthropological evidence and present informed syntheses in relation to current knowledge
Be able to undertake work involving key methods of anthropological work and/or archaeological field and laboratory work and the recording of primary data acquired
Be able to identify problems and questions, and critically evaluate theoretical, interpretative and practical aspects of archaeological and anthropological research
Be able to undertake independent individual research to a timetable and deadlines
