The University’s Enhanced Curriculum Framework permits students registered to Joint degrees to vary their credit weighting in their second and final year. A minimum of 40 credits and a maximum of 80 credits must be taken in each discipline in both years (subject to a total number of 120 credits in each year). Students who complete less than 160 credits in one of their disciplines will graduate with a major/minor degree.
Students choose 80-credits of optional modules.
Students must take a minimum of 40-credits in History and a minimum of 40-credits in English Language.
Students may take a Professional Skills Module in place of 20-credits of English Language optional modules in semester 1.
Students must take at least one option in the discipline in which they are completing independent study.
Students must take 40-credits of optional modules in each semester.

Students taking 80 credits in English Language and 40 credits in History
English Language: 40 credit English Language Dissertation, one semester 1 option and one semester 2 option
History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester)
Students taking 60 credits in English Language and 60 credits in History:
English Language: 40 credit English Language Dissertation and one semester 1 option
History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) AND ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2.

English Language: 40 credit English Language Dissertation and one semester 2 option
History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) AND ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1.
OR
English Language: two semester 1 options and one semester 2 option
History: Students choose ONE 20-credit optional module in Semester 2 PLUS the 40-credit Dissertation
OR
English Language: one semester 1 option and two semester 2 options
History: Students choose ONE 20-credit optional module in Semester 1 plus the 40-credit Dissertation
Students taking 40 credits in English Language and 80 credits in History:
English Language: one semester 1 option and one semester 2 option
History: Students choose TWO co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) plus the 40-credit History Dissertation.
OR
English Language: one semester 1 option and one semester 2 option
History: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1 and ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2 plus the 40-credit History Dissertation.
Students taking 40 credits in History must choose TWO co-requisite Specials Subjects to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester)
Students taking 60-80 credits in History may choose TWO co-requisite Specials Subjects to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester)

With the approval of the programme lead students may also take 20 credits of approved modules offered by a School or Department other than History in place of one of the Options on Lists A or B.
Credits must still be evenly balanced across semesters.
Theology and Religion Department optional modules available to History students:
Students may also apply to undertake a Professional Skills module at level H. If successful this will be taken in place of one of their semester 1 taught modules. The placement can be taken either during the summer vacation (part-time or full-time) or during semester 1 (part-time only). The placement must be completed prior to the Christmas vacation. Students who undertook a Professional Skills module at level I will not be able to undertake a Professional Skills module at level H.
