This 20-credit module examines the conflict between the use of natural resources, growing environmentaldegradation and increasing population. It assesses the difficulties in distinguishing human impacts from natural environmental changes, and examines a number of specific environmental issues grouped within broad inter-disciplinary themes spanning key areas of research excellence in GEES including a selection of:
‘Water’, ‘Environment and Society’, ‘Climate Change’, ‘Forests’, ‘Environmental Health’ ‘Urban Environments’ and ‘Global Challenges’

By the end of the module students should be able to:
Understand the key drivers responsible for global environmental issues
Synthesise the literature to derive an objective assessment on the significance of selected environmental issues.
