Description This module is intended to provide in-depth training in the skills required to gain funding for research. Students will participate in a 2-day workshop designed to develop your entrepreneurial and business skills in a scientific context and to learn about funding of scientific research. They will work in teams to develop either a grant application or a business plan in your chosen research areas, applying the skills and knowledge from the seminars.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • experience in developing scientific planning and group organisation
  • Development of scientific communications skills
  • Development of skills in scientific critique
Assessment 22937-01 : Continuous Assessment : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: Continuous Assessment 100% comprising:
Group activities awarded a group mark
Grant Proposal or Business Plan - 40%
Presentation - 30%
Critique during presentation - 10%Submission of minutes - 5% (required element)
Individual Component
Lay Summary - 15%

Reassessment: Resubmission of failed components. Students must participate in the group work in order to pass this module. In the case of a student who has failed this module at the first attempt the reassessment module mark will be capped at 50%
