With the approval of relevant staff (normally the Director of Undergraduate Studies and/ or Admissions Tutor, in consultation with teaching colleagues, according to module availability) students may seek to change the number and weighting of their languages by switching routes (e.g. Route 1 to Route 2, or Route 3 to Route 1) at appropriate points in the degree (e.g. once end-of-stage results are confirmed). NB students may not normally pick up a supplementary language after the standard course change period at the start of Stage I, even if they have A Levels or equivalent in all relevant languages (e.g. by moving from Route 4 to Routes 1, 2 or 3, or by moving from Routes 1 or 2 to Route 3).
For ALL routes, 1-4, the following core language modules - 40 credits for post beginners, or 40 credits at beginners level - are compulsory at Stage I for each language followed. No more than two languages may be taken at beginners level, one of which must be Beginners French or Beginners Spanish.
