Aims of the Programme The aim of this programme is to prepare high-level professionals in both computer science and mathematics who would be able to work as specialists in these subjects. This programme is an extension of the existing BSc programme of the same name. It provides a deeper understanding of both subject areas and enables students to get close to the frontiers of research.

Key mathematical concepts and topics
How mathematics can be used to analyse and solve problems including those at an abstract level
Essential concepts, principles and theories relating to Computing
How the Computer Science theory is related to modelling and design of computer-based systems
The latest trends and developments in research in either Computer Science or Mathematics
The role of computing professionals within a company and the interactions that normally take place with other disciplines
The application of technical knowledge in a commercial context at an appropriate level for the student's qualifications
The standard of professional presentation and reporting skills required in industry and commerce
1-5: Lectures and tutorials; computer practicals; projects;
6: Working in a commercial environment under the supervision of an Industrial Tutor;
7: Working in a commercial environment under the supervision of an Industrial Tutor, in particular completing one or more technical projects as required by the company;
8: Maintenance of a log-book; undertaking presentations and/or making reports as may be required by the company under the supervision of an Industrial Tutor.
1-5: Class tests, examinations, assignments, oral presentation;

7: Successful completion of at least 30 weeks of the placement (as determined by the Industrial Tutor and the Academic Tutor), Report;

To abstract the essentials of problems and formulate them mathematically and in a symbolic form
To select and apply appropriate mathematical methods to solve problems including those at an abstract level

To present arguments and conclusions clearly and accurately
To specify, design and construct computer-based systems
To independently solve a substantial problem and present a solution both orally and in a dissertation
The ability to work as a computing professional in a commercial environment, demonstrating a professional and responsible attitude
The ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
