Aims of the Programme To enable registered, experienced social workers to understand, develop and demonstrate in practice the knowledge, values and skills to meet the professional and academic requirements for all types of practice education in social work. On completion of the programme they will be able to meet the British Association of Social Workers Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) and undertake learning support and assessment activities with a range of social work learners.
Programme Outcomes
Students are expected to have Knowledge and Understanding of: Which will be gained through the following Teaching and Learning methods: and assessed using the following methods:
1) To demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of contemporary social work models, methods and theories relevant to the work, powers and duties, and policy and procedures of the agency, to support learners (student social workers or those on post-qualified routes) on placement or in the work place (PEPS Domain A and B)

2) To show the knowledge and understanding to design and create a learning environment conducive for the demonstration of assessed capability at the required level (PEPS Domain A and B)

3) To evidence the knowledge of approaches and methods for assessing learners' performance against the professional capabilities framework at the relevant level (PEPS Domain C)

4) To demonstrate knowledge of employing organisation's quality assurance, performance and capability systems (PEPS Domain D)
A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used including lectures, small group workingm simulations and work based student/staff experiences.
A variety of assessment methods including direct observation, assignments and completion of a practice portfolio
Students are expected to have attained the following Skills and other Attributes: Which will be gained through the following Teaching and Learning methods: and assessed using the following methods:
1) To work with learners, colleagues and other stakeholders to identify and create learning opportunities to enable the demonstration of professional capability at the required level (PEPS Domain A).

2) To monitor the suitability of the work environment, learning opportunities, resources and to address any shortcomings (PEPS Domain A).

3) To contribute to the development of a culture for learning within the organisation and identify barriers for learners (students or those post qualified) (PEPS Domain A B C and D)

4) To create learning objectives, opportunities and activities that reflect the learner’s level and enables professional development (PEPS Domain B)

5) To provide timely, honest and constructive feedback on learners’ performance in an appropriate format (PEPS Domain C).

6) To demonstrate the ability to make holistic assessment decisions around areas of development, including for marginal or failing learners or those who have not met the standards they seek or are required to attain. (PEPS Domain C)

7) To engage learners in the design, planning and implementation of the learning objectives and the assessment of learning (PEPS Domain A B and C)

8) To self-evaluate performance and demonstrate an ability to transfer practice educator skills, knowledge and values to new roles in coaching, mentoring, supervision, teaching and/or assessment (PEPS Domain D).
