One language with Translation Studies
Students must take 40 credits in Translation Studies and 80 credits in one advanced modern foreign language (Advanced French, Advanced German, Advanced Italian, Advanced Russian or Advanced Spanish).
Two languages with Translation Studies
Students who opt to study two modern foreign languages are required to study 40 credits in each language (one must be an advanced language) and 40 credits in Translation Studies.
Advanced Languages that can be combined with Translation Studies are:
Advanced French, Advanced German, Advanced Italian, Advanced Russian or Advanced Spanish.
NB: You can only study Catalan, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese as a two-language combination with Translation Studies.
Some languages cannot be taken together for timetabling reasons.
Translation Studies is restricted to speakers of English + French, or English + German, or English + Italian, or English + Spanish, or English + Russian. Native standard is required in one of the languages of each pair and Advanced Level in the other.

French (choose either Beginners or Advanced modules):

Catalan (students must take all modules for the Catalan Minor (40 credits):

Students taking one language with Translation Studies
Students taking 80 credits in language A:

And 40 credits in Translation Studies
You must take 40 compulsory Translation Studies credits.
Students taking two languages with Translation Studies
Students taking 40 credits in language A:

Students taking 40 credits in language B:
[Advanced French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish or Beginners Catalan, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish] You do not choose any optional modules. You must take 40 compulsory language credits.
And 40 credits in Translation Studies:
You must take 40 compulsory Translation Studies credits.
In addition to the core language module(s) for their chosen language(s), students choose additional Level C modules provided annually by the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music, up to the relevant credit value for their respective route, to a combined total of 120 credits. Depending on the number of credits students opt to take in each language, optional modules choices may be restricted. Availability of particular modules varies from year to year and is subject to timetabling constraints.
