B.A. History and Politics Full-time

2025/26 Session
The University Regulations permit students registered to Joint degrees to vary their credit weighting in their second and final year. A minimum of 40 credits and a maximum of 80 credits must be taken in each discipline in both years (subject to a total number of 120 credits in each year). Students who undertake less than 160 credits in one of their disciplines will graduate with a major/minor degree.
Students must choose ONE 40-credit Independent Study module.
Students choosing to do an 80:40 split in one particular department must take the relevant independent study module.
Students taking 40 credits in History must choose TWO co-requisite Specials Subjects to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester).
All optional lists are indicative; not all modules will run year depending on staff availability.
Credits must be evenly balanced across semesters.
Students taking 80 credits in History and 40 credits in Politics History: Students choose TWO co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) PLUS the 40-credit History Dissertation.
Politics: Students choose 40-credits of options (20 in each Semester).
OR
History: Students choose 40-credits of options (20 in each Semester PLUS the 40-credit History Dissertation.
Politics: Students choose 40-credits of options (20 in each Semester).
Students taking 60 credits in History and 60 credits in Politics History: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1 PLUS the 40-credit History dissertation.
Politics: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1 AND TWO 20-credit options in Semester 2.
OR
History: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2 PLUS the 40-credit History dissertation.
Politics: Students choose TWO 20-credit options in Semester 1 and ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2.
OR
History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) AND ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2.
Politics: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1 PLUS the 40-credit Politics dissertation.
OR
History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) AND ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1.
Politics: Students choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2 PLUS the 40-credit Politics dissertation.
Students taking 40 credits in History and 80 credits in Politics History: Students choose two co-requisite Special Subject Modules to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester)
Politics: Students choose 40-credits of options (20 in each Semester PLUS the 40-credit Politics Dissertation.
Students must choose one of the following Independent Study modules:
Students taking 40 credits in History must choose TWO co-requisite Specials Subjects to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester)
Students taking 60-80 credits in History may choose TWO co-requisite Specials Subjects to the value of 40 credits (20 credits in each semester) This list is indicative; not all modules will run each year depending on staff availability.
With the approval of the programme lead students may also take 20 or 40 credits of approved module or modules offered by a School or Department other than History in place of one or two of the Options from Lists A and/or B.
Credits must still be evenly balanced across semesters.
