Exclusions
Description A detailed examination of the main food legislation, to include food safety & food hygiene legislation, the sources of food law, the interpretation and application of food legislation, evidence gathering and legal procedure as they relate to contraventions of food law.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • access, read and apply food safety and food standards legislation issued by the Food Standards Agency and the European Commission.
  • demonstrate a detailed knowledge of common food legislation and be able to apply this knowledge correctly in typical situations.
  • identify contraventions of food law correctly in typical situations and be able to determine a suitable course of action, using the full range of options available to officers
  • demonstrate a good understanding of the way the English legal system works, and be able to give examples of how this impacts on food legislation
Assessment 14427-01 : Case Study : Coursework (50%)
14427-03 : Prosecution File : Coursework (50%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions The assessment for this module will have two components. There will be enforcement case studies worth 50% of the mark and a mock prosecution on some aspect of food hygiene law worth 50% of the total mark. Candidates must achieve a minimum of 40% in the case studies and 65% in the prosecution. Candidates must pass both elements in order to pass the module.

Reassessment: 1 resubmission of each failed assessment permitted
