The module introduces students to core skills for academic learning and introduces them to strategies for developing those skills. The focus will be on critical thinking, reflective social work practice and effective communication for academic and professional audiences.
Students will be encouraged to critically explore their experience during their first assessed period of academic study. Students will learn to access and interpret evidence and to use this knowledge to inform learning for the academic and practice based aspects of the programme.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Understand and practice the skills associated with sourcing, accessing and organising resources for learning and practice.
Identify different types of evidence and select and apply the evidence for a range of purposes and situations.
Understand the concept of the reflexive and reflective practitioner and demonstrate the ability to reflect on their own learning and development.
Understand the importance of individual needs and be able to recognise and identify their own needs in both the academic and professional context as well as identify the needs of others.
Understand the principles and practice the skills necessary for communicating effectively with a range of different audiences including: Academic, Professionals, Service Users, and Carers
