Description
This module is designed to explore the experience of communities engaged in urban regeneration by means of drawing on specific experience in the field. Regeneration is multi-faceted and complex and is also primarily about people’s lives. The module explores different instruments and approaches towards urban regeneration and the role of communities within these. There is a focus on exploring the experience of community-based solutions and activities in relation to urban regeneration and the module provides the opportunity for students to gain knowledge and understanding of a range of approaches towards urban regeneration.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
Understand what we mean by “community” in particular contexts
Identify and analyse the value and purpose of community involvement in the regeneration process
Have an understanding of the context of urban regeneration and how it has changed overtime
Have a practical understanding of actual examples of community involvement in action
Explain the rationale for establishing urban regeneration as a form of public policy.
Identify key lessons and approaches towards regeneration from case study examples
