Description This module is designed to explore the experience of communities engaged in urban regeneration by means of drawing on specific experience in the field. Regeneration is multi-faceted and complex and is also primarily about people’s lives. The module explores different instruments and approaches towards urban regeneration and the role of communities within these.
There is a focus on exploring the experience of community-based solutions and activities in relation to urban regeneration and the module provides the opportunity for students to gain knowledge and understanding of a range of approaches towards urban regeneration.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student should be able to:
  • Understand what we mean by “community” in particular contexts
  • Identify and analyse the value and purpose of community involvement in the regeneration process
  • Have an understanding of the context of urban regeneration and how it has changed overtime
  • Have a practical understanding of actual examples of community involvement in action
  • Explain the rationale for establishing urban regeneration as a form of public policy.
  • Identify key lessons and approaches towards regeneration from case study examples
