Description
The module involves the organisation, research and writing up of an original piece of research in the form of a 10,000 word dissertation. The teaching involves students attending seminars on identifying research questions, researching in archives, conducting interviews and writing up the research in a scholarly and even publishable form. Group meetings will be used to introduce students to issues that will be applicable to all of research projects, regardless of subject matter. These include a session on doing research, introduction to archives and referencing in academic writing. Students will also meet with their supervisors at least 5 times to discuss research findings, identify gaps in the research and discuss alternative ways in which the research may be written up and presented. A seminar will also address the practical issues of writing up research findings, but students will also meet with supervisors, who will be prepared to comment on individual students' written work.
