Learning Outcomes By the end of the module the student will be able to:
  • Analyse key texts and literary processes relevant to the discussion of African literature.
  • Describe and appraise a broad selection of canonical African literature, in relation to relevant theoretical concepts and processes (including analysis of primary evidence where appropriate).
  • Compare and evaluate critically the main scholarly views on canonical African writing.
  • Evaluate and synthesise the literary and cultural contexts that relate to canonical African writing.
  • Work with a significant degree of learner independence to explain, analyse and evaluate the material under scrutiny in writing.
