Research Methods C extends research techniques and skills introduced during Year 1 research methods modules. Through interactive lectures, computer practicals, online tasks and experiential learning, students will build on introductory research methods modules to take a more critical and responsible approach to being an ethical, independent, and proactive researcher. Looking at sophisticated research designs and approaches, students will participate in two practical research projects. One project will develop quantitative research skills to enable the testing of hypotheses bringing together more than one factor. The other project will explore human experience and/or ways of expressing themselves through qualitative research methods. Throughout, students will have the opportunity to develop their insights into the human mind and behaviour, enhance their ethical practice, and work on developing professional presentation skills (e.g., through writing formal research reports to suit specific needs). These opportunities are essential in preparing students for their final year research project or future professional research practice.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Module, students should be able to:
Explain key concepts underlying qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
Choose and apply relevant forms of analysis (qualitative and quantitative).
Conduct and report appropriately designed, ethical research studies (qualitative and quantitative)
Carry out and interpret inferential analyses using appropriate software tools.
Analyse and interpret data from qualitative analyses.
