Description This module introduces basic critical methodologies, concepts and vocabularies employed in current academic work in the fields of historical musicology and ethnomusicology. Students concurrently develop effective research and writing skills applicable to their future careers as musicians and scholars.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand the critical approaches employed in recent writing on a wide range of music and its contexts.
  • Critically evaluate a wide range of types of writing on music.
  • Apply appropriate critical methods to broad range of music and its contexts.Work confidently with critical vocabularies drawn from a broad range of writers.
