The Introduction to Adult Restorative Dentistry (IARD) module prepares the student for clinical practice as a Therapist within the dental team. The module facilitates students the opportunity to make decisions and recognise the need for referral to a dentist, affirming the importance of this partnership. It explores the areas of both tooth injury and disease through lecture and small work groups whilst introducing the student to practical sessions. Throughout the module the Hygiene and Therapy students are integrated with the BDS undergraduate students (2nd years) for lectures. The students will acquire the relevant assessment and treatment techniques based in a clinical skills laboratory enabling them to become competent in the principles of clinical effectiveness and cavity preparation and restoration of permanent teeth.
