Description
This module is a supervised research project undertaken largely through self-directed study in consultation with tutors and supervisors in which the student will undertake research on a subject relevant to their course of study. It will allow the opportunity for students to investigate the published literature and to demonstrate their capacity for independent work and critical analysis of scientific evidence. The project will be presented as a project proposal and a written report, which will enable them to disseminate the information they have gathered on the assignment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate self-directed learning and ability to access literature from a variety of sources.
Demonstrate IT skills in presentation of the project report.
Analyse and critically appraise published scientific literature, including the correct interpretation of data.
Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of scientific method and the relevance and reliability of the results of scientific studies and how they relate to current knowledge.
Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of evidence based clinical practice.
Written Research Proposal - 1500 words (20%) submitted term 7, year 3 Written Research Report 5000 words (80%) submitted term 7, year 3 Overall pass mark for module 50% (weighted average of 20% research proposal and 80% research project) Research Project minimum mark 45%
Reassessment:
Research Proposal - one resubmission permitted, submitted term 7, year 3. The resubmission mark is capped at 50% maximum. Research Report - one resubmission permitted, submitted January term 8, year 3. Overall pass mark for module 50% (weighted average of 20% research proposal and 80% research project)
