Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • Understand the different methodologies and approaches applied to the study of history in an academic institution outside the UK.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently.
  • Communicate explanation and analysis of the subject clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at a non-UK institution

Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: The student is expected to undertake assessment in accordance with normal practice at the host institution. Students are assessed as per the specified requirements for the modules they choose to take at the host institution.

Students need to take 30 ECTS (or equivalent) per semester. The Year Abroad will be assessed on a pass/fail basis only. Further information on assessing the Year Abroad can be found in the Code of Practice on Taught Programme and Module Assessment and Feedback

Reassessment: Where possible this will be undertaken at the host institution. Where this is not possible the student will be reassessed by essays (which would not exceed a combined total of 8000 words) depending on how many Birmingham equivalent credits need to be retrieved.
