Description	Students choose a host university which is: 1. approved by the UoB International Office within the Study Abroad and Exchanges scheme, and 2. deemed by the DASA study abroad officer to offer modules relevant to the students’ UoB degree programme and comparable with modules offered at UoB. Students will be allowed to take up modules which are relevant to their programmes but which cannot usually be offered at UoB (e.g. African language modules). The modules to be studied will be equivalent in credit terms to one semester of full-time study at UoB but the topics will vary according to availability and student preference.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of the module students should be able to: Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the subjects studied at the host institution. Write essays or projects OR complete written or oral examinations OR demonstrate linguistic/practical competence, as per the requirements of the modules taken in the host institution.
Assessment	26664-01 : Semester abroad : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions	Assessment: Students are assessed as per the specified requirements for the modules they choose to take at the host institution. Marks for each module taken the host institution will be provided to the International Office at UoB. An average mark from the host institution can then be calculated by the International Office, who will use their scale to translate it into an overall mark for the 60 credit DASA Semester Abroad module. Where the host institution offers students an opportunity to resit a failed module, students may take this up. Where such opportunities are not available, reassessment will be formulated by their home department. Reassessment at UoB should be feasible in most cases given that the modules that students take at the host institution must be agreed with the DASA study abroad officer, relevant to the students’ degree programmes, and comparable with modules offered at UoB. An exception to this is African language modules. A student who fails an African language module which cannot be reassessed at either the host institution or at UoB will be offered the chance to take the UoB Level I Independent Study module over the summer in order to make up the missing % of credit in the DASA semester abroad module. Failure of the DASA semester abroad module after reassessment will lead to failure of the programme and a requirement to withdraw from the University. Students may apply to re-enter on the non-study abroad variant of their programme, but must be prepared to bear to costs of repeating their second year of study. DASA is not obliged to re-accept students who have not shown due diligence during the DASA study abroad module. Reassessment: resubmission of failed component(s)
