Exclusions
Description	The Dissertation enables students to undertake a substantial piece of in-depth research, bringing together learning and skills in research that have been developed across the three years of the degree. Students will be required to demonstrate learner independence within a supported environment throughout the module: students will identify a topic that is of interest to them, devise a research question and title of their work; they will plan and carry out research which interrogates their chosen topic, constructing their own arguments and positions on their topic by analysing and reviewing current research on the area of study. The culmination of the research will be the production of a highly polished piece of formal academic writing. Support will be provided through individual meetings with a project advisor, small-group workshops, lectures and writing surgeries.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of the Module, students should be able to: Identify an appropriate area of focus, develop research questions, and use suitable methods to answer those questions. Conduct a significant piece of independent research; be ready to evaluate and reshape the project as it develops. Construct an argument that is substantiated by analysis and interpretation of appropriate evidence; present that argument with clarity and sound organization. Demonstrate knowledge of their chosen field of literary scholarship and follow appropriate conventions in presenting references and bibliography.
