Description
Practice educators who have successfully passed this module will have sufficient experience and have demonstrated competence to supervise, teach and assess social work students up to and including the final placement. They will have demonstrated and provided evidence of how they met the stage 2 Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) and shown a sound value base as a practice educator.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically appraise and organise an effective learning environment for social work learners for the demonstration of assessed competence in practice dealing with complex issues both systematically and creatively commensurate with Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (Domain A).
Critically enable the learning and professional development of social work learners in practice by evidencing the ability to teach, facilitate and support their learning and professional development commensurate with Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (Domain B).
Demonstrate an ability to critically manage the fair and transparent assessment of social work learners in practice adhering to explicit principles of fairness and equity commensurate with Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (Domain C).
Critically evaluate their own continuing development and performance and advance their knowledge and understanding to develop new skills as a practice educator commensurate with Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards (Domain D).
Demonstrate and evidence the attainment of the practice components, Values Statements, and the 4 Domains (A-D) of BASW’s Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) at the level commensurate with Stage 2 Practice Educators.

27315-01 : Portfolio : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions
Assessments: Academic Assessment: One 2500 word submission (100% of numeric mark) Practical Assessment: Evidence of supporting a social work learner in practice (as per the PEPS guidance) and a portfolio of work-based evidence and associated commentary to include two observations of the candidates practice (pass/fail).
Reassessment: Resubmission of failed component. Where students fail their assignment on two separate attempts, they will be automatically awarded with a non-credit bearing, practice only (non-academic) award assuming all professional criteria LO and assessment (see box 19.1 and practical assessment) has been satisfied.
