Description This module enables students to undertake interdisciplinary research combining their two disciplines in one project. The research topic will draw on knowledge from both fields and form intellectual links by crossing the boundaries between them.

The length, format, number of supervisions and other conventions relating to the project are put in place by the Home department according to their usual conventions.

Students will be supervised in their Home department, and have access to research support provided by their home department in the form of any lectures, workshops and other sessions available to single-discipline Dissertation students.

The 40 credits of the module will count equally towards both subjects taken – i.e. 20 towards the home department and 20 towards the partner department – when it comes to calculating the final degree title.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • conduct extended independent research into a subject involving both their JH disciplines in a roughly 50/50 proportion
  • undertake a thorough synthesis and review of the material available on the area of study
  • provide independent critical analysis and draw appropriate conclusions and arguments
  • demonstrate a thorough familiarity with the conventions of scholarly presentation and referencing
