In order to increase the application of theory to practise we are planning to liaise with local junior schools to bring groups of children in for a fundamental movement skills development sessions during the year 1 residential weeks. All students will be DBS checked prior to these sessions and will be assisting the tutor in running the session. Risk assessments and public liability insurance will be in place to cover juniors and adults on the PGA premises.

Description
Students will undertake a coach education programme integrating theory and practice in golf coaching. This involves an introduction to the impact factors and the fundamental science of golf ball flight. They will also study pre-swing principles that affect impact and the subsequent ball flight. In addition students will cover aspects related to learning theory, skill acquisition, and participation and individual/group lessons for novice and junior golfers. and individual/group lessons for novice and junior golfers.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Understand how to conduct individual/group lessons for novice and junior golfs
Demonstrate an understanding of theories of socialisation and participation when coaching junior and beginner golfers
Explain the theories and practical strategies associated with skill acquisition and learning in golf
Identify common ball flights
Describe the ball flight characteristics and explain how they link to impact factors
Identify the pre-swing principles and explain how they influence impact factors
Assessments:Coursework (40%): 1 x 2000 word assignment; Exam (60%): Exam (60%):1 x 2 hour exams
