This module builds on the conceptual experience of topographical anatomy students gained in year 1 and incorporates material covered in the body system modules of Year 2 to further develop students’ ability to integrate their anatomical understanding across body systems. The module is designed to encourage students to develop a more holistic approach to patient care: a thorough grounding in clinically relevant regional anatomy is fundamental to all safe practice. To this end, the module includes use of ultrasounds and interpretation of radiological images to introduce he principles underlying safe interventional techniques.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an ability to understand and use scientific and medical terminology appropriate to the anatomical regions being studied in year 2
Identify anatomical features on specimens and medical images, integrating knowledge acquired in year1 and year 2.
Describe the normal functional anatomy of structures within the body regions and discuss the impact of gross / common pathologies and trauma upon normal function.
Discuss how a comprehensive knowledge of clinical anatomy informs safe clinical practice
