Description The extended essay consists of independent research into an area of Classics, Ancient History, or Archaeology, determined by the student's own interest. Students will build skills enabling them to identify, explore and evaluate primary source material and secondary literature. The main focus of supervision will be on assisting the student to structure their core argument effectively, present convincing analysis of the evidence used to sustain their argument, and to prepare a clear introduction and conclusion to the dissertation.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Conduct independent research, synthesising and reviewing the material available on the area of study
  • Deploy critical analysis and draw appropriate arguments and conclusions
  • Demonstrate a thorough familiarity with the conventions of scholarly presentation and referencing
