Description Simulated Clinical Skills

To help support your theory, knowledge and clinical practice, please see the list of clinical procedural skills Download the list of clinical procedural skills that you are expected to complete during simulation when attending clinical skills training. Where indicated these simulated clinical skills should be recorded on Pebblepad and must be undertaken prior to observed practice.

Observed Practice Clinical Skills

You are also required to demonstrate the continual use of these skills under direct supervision in clinical practice, which must be documented via PebblePad. The list of clinical procedural skills below are incorporated into your scheduled skills teaching and training sessions from Year 3 to Year 5.

These are the procedural skills that the GMC requires medical students to be competent in at graduation. For more information about the curriculum requirements of the GMC go to https://www.gmc-uk.org/education/standards-guidance-and-curricula/standards-and-outcomes/outcomes-for-graduates/outcomes-for-graduates---practical-skills-and-procedures (Links to an external site.)

You can be sure that as an FY1 doctor you will have to perform most of these procedures regularly. Therefore, you really should make the most of the opportunities available to you to gain competence and confidence in these skills. Your learning curve as an FY1 will be steep enough, without having to worry unnecessarily about your basic skills.
