Description The module will provide students with an introduction to university-level research methods. Weeks 1-5 will involve a series of lectures outlining the theory and practice of key methods within both Physical and Human Geography.

The fieldcourse (Week 6) will expose students to the application of methods in the field.
Weeks 7-11 will develop a critical understanding of research practice through small group work.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Understand basic research methods associated with both human and physical branches of geography
  • Demonstrate an ability to put basic research methods into practice
  • Determine the most appropriate research methods in order to explore a given research issue
  • Critically analyse and present field data in a clear and coherent manner
