Exclusions
Description	This module will introduce students to relevant concepts from linguistics and grammatical systems that will help them to conceptualise and describe translation as a process and a product. An understanding of linguistic concepts is a useful toolkit that will give students a vocabulary and a conceptual framework to help them become better translators and to describe and reflect constructively on both their own translation practice and existing translations. Topics covered may include: words and meanings, collocation, coherence and cohesion, pragmatics and sociolinguistics. Classes will focus upon examples in English, since the cohort will not have a shared second language. However, they will be required to produce examples in their language(s) of study.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of the module students should be able to: Describe the relevant concepts from linguistics covered in the module Use these concepts to inform their own translation practice Use these concepts to describe and evaluate their own translation practice and that of other translators
