Description This module covers conceptual and historical issues in cognitive psychology, and explores the relationship between cognitive psychology and the field of education including its relevance to educational research.
Key paradigms in cognitive psychology will be discussed. Cognitive psychology research models and their underlying assumptions will be studied in reference to key areas of cognition. Ethical principles and research limitations will also be considered.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Explain the history of cognitive psychology including its relevance to education
  • Identify the key paradigms in cognitive psychology
  • Understand the types of functions cognitive psychology seeks to explain
  • Evaluate the research models used in cognitive psychology
Assessment 31669-01 : Review of Journal Article 1500 words : Coursework (50%)
31669-02 : Blog 1500 words : Coursework (50%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: 1500 word review of a journal article (50%) and 1500 word blog (50%) Reassessment: resubmission of the failed component where the overall module mark is less than a pass mark.
